Vice President JD Vance has stated that ongoing negotiations in Congress regarding the federal budget are facing significant delays, resulting in painful layoffs for federal workers once the government shutdown hits the two-week mark.

As the shutdown enters its 12th day, Vance confirmed that painful cuts are imminent, with over 4,000 federal employees poised to lose their jobs. While some essential services remain, including military payments, the overall federal workforce is being significantly impacted.

The longer this goes on, the deeper the cuts are going to be, Vance told Fox News. He expressed concern for the domestic workers who are currently furloughed as negotiations stall, primarily due to partisan disagreements over federal healthcare subsidies.

Union leaders have responded with outrage over the impending terminations, arguing that firings are unnecessary and illegal. The standoff between Democrats and Republicans escalates, as each side blames the other for the escalating crisis. Hakeem Jeffries, leader of the House Democrats, emphasized their openness to negotiations, while Republican leaders insist that the shutdown has caused significant hardship.

Negotiations surrounding the shutdown remain virtually nonexistent as both party leaders exchange criticisms, increasing tensions. The shutdown commenced after Democrats rejected a funding bill that did not extend essential health subsidies due to expire soon, causing alarm about increased costs for millions.

While Trump’s administration continues to prioritize military and low-income assistance, the outlook for federal workers remains uncertain as further layoffs loom—driving home concerns about the impacts of the shutdown on American families.
