TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities in Arizona are actively searching for the 84-year-old mother of 'Today' show host Savannah Guthrie, who has been reported missing since the weekend. The Pima County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Chris Nanos, stated that Nancy Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her residence in the Tucson area. Her family reported her missing around noon on Sunday. While Nancy suffers from some physical ailments, Sheriff Nanos confirmed that she does not have any cognitive issues.
The search operation is robust, utilizing drones, trained search dogs, and support from volunteers, with additional assistance from the Border Patrol. Unusually, the homicide unit is also involved in the investigation, which Nanos noted is not a standard procedure in missing person cases. He did, however, indicate that foul play is not being ruled out, highlighting some peculiarities at the scene of her disappearance.
On Monday, Savannah Guthrie publicly thanked supporters for their thoughts and prayers, emphasizing the family’s focus on her mother's safe return. The community remains hopeful as search efforts continue.
